Boffer (Youth) Combat
In the Society for Creative Anchronism there is something for everyone! You're never too old or too young, too big or too small to find interesting and challenging activities to delight and amaze you. There is even a form of combat that is just for the Youth of the Society. We call it "Boffer" fighting. This involves some serious protective gear (usually hockey pads and helmets or something similar) and foam wrapped weapons. A specially trained Youth Marshall must be present as must the parent or guardian of the fighter. It is a lot of fun for the kids and a great way to begin to learn the skill and art of Chivalric Combat. There are awards and honorary titles to aspire to and a great time is had by all. It really brings a thrill to a Mom or Dad to have their child win the approbation of respected Knights and fighters. The Lists can be a terrific schoolroom for our youngsters. Remember, young ladies are encouraged to participate also!
